- A paring knife is a small knife than the chef's knife and mostly used for shaping and trimming food. It is a most useful knife for small & intricate work like removing JalapeƱo seeds, de-veining shrimp, skinning vegetables, coring an apple and mincing vegetables.
- 'Sheep's foot paring knife' and 'Birds Beak paring knife' are widely used types of paring knives.
It is important that any knives are kept sharp, as blunt knives require more force to use, actually increasing the likelihood of injury (cuts from a sharp knife heal more quickly than those from a blunt one). A knife sharpener can be used to sharpen knives.
