Nastar, or tananas, are pineapple jam filled cookies. These are popular treats for Eid ul-Fitr and Christmas celebrations in Indonesia.

Ingredients

  • 0.5 kg margarine
  • 0.5 kg all-purpose flour
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 2 egg yolks, for painting the top of the cookies
  • 1 ounce sugar
  • 5 gr vanilla powder
  • 1 ounce Gouda cheese grated, or Cheddar as substitute
  • 0.5 ounce raisin for garnish

Procedure

Jam

  1. Peel pineapple, wash and make pineapple purée
  2. Put pineapple purée in a pan, add sugar and cinnamon, cook while mixing in medium fire until set
  3. If the jam still tastes sour, add more sugar to taste
  4. Let it cool, pineapple jam has to be thick enough to roll into small marbles

Dough

  1. Batter 6 egg yolks with margarine and sugar
  2. Add grated cheese to mix
  3. Add flour and vanilla little by little to make dough
  1. Roll the dough smaller than golf ball, fill with pineapple jam
  2. Cut raisin into two, put it on top
  3. Paint the cookie with egg yolk
  4. Use cookie sheet, bake in oven (30 minutes) until golden yellow.
