Fried shrimp are shrimp that are covered in batter and then deep-fat fried.

  • Southern Fried Shrimp use a batter that includes some cornmeal. These are often sold partially cooked and frozen, to be finished in an oven.
  • Chinese Fried Shrimp use a batter that puffs up a lot. These are commonly served at westernized Chinese restaraunts in the USA.
  • Tempura shrimp use a batter that is somewhat thin and often flakey. Tempura shrimp are a Japanese food commonly served on top of white rice or floating and soggy in a bowl of udon or soba.
